November and December Morphe Me

I have been so reluctant to post one of these posts because lately I’ve been so disappointed with what I’ve been getting. However in December the Morphe Me delivery was really good!

If you recall, Morphe Me is a monthly beauty subscription service unlike any other. For $20 you get $30 worth of high quality Morphe brushes. I’d recommend this to anyone that’s looking to build their brush collection and for anyone that’s looking to try out Morphe brushes. If you want to sign up, click here.

I’m actually going to go over two months in this post so get ready!

December’s Brushes:

M516 Angled Blender: The firm shape of this b goat hair brush is going to be perfect for defining that outer V! You might even be able to use this brush for nose contour?

Retail price: $4.99

M515 Detail Crease Liner: Another goat hair brush that’s going to be grat for lining your lower lash line or carving out your crease for a cut crease.

Retail price: $3.99

M502 Round Blender: This sable brush is just a run of the mill blending brush but it’s one of my favorites! The tapered tip makes it a must have brush for your collection. And, I think we’ve gotten this brush already?

Retail price: $5.99

M562 Tiny Crease Blender: I haven’t seen a brush like this! This tiny slim brush is going to be perfect for blending cut creases or the lower lash line. This is a synthetic fiber brush.

Retail price: $3.99

M560 Detail Crease: Since this is a dense synthetic brush, this is definitely going to pack on the pigment. Once again, another great brush for detailing your lower lash line.

Retail price: $2.99

M512 Round Contour: The last brush of December is a goat hair contour brush. I’m actually quite scared to use this once since it’s so dense! This is also the problem that I’ve had with this subscription service for the past few months. All we’ve been getting is contour brush after contour brush. So my arsenal is full of contour brushes!

Retail price: $8.99

Total value of Decmebers brushes: $30.94

November’s Brushes:

M517 Jumbo Crease: This brush makes for a perfect eraser so to speak. The dense goat hair bristles make it an ideal brush to buff out any harsh or dense lines

Retail price: $5.99

M528 Pointed Contour: We received a brush super similar to this back in October so I’m happy to have a backup but also bummed that I have two of the same brush.

Retail price: $12.99

M551 Tapered Powder: I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO RECIEVE A BRUSH LIKE THIS!! This is super similar to the MAC 116 or the MAC 135. I am so excited to use this brush for bronzer!

Retail price: $13.99

Morphe Premium Beauty Sponge: Now, there was a problem with my order and it got lost. I was really upset because the ONE thing that I was really excited about was thereceiving the  beauty sponge. Once I reached out to customer service they resent my brushes. Great. But when I got the package, I saw that I got the black “premium” sponge and not the “flawless” sponge. Long story short, I tried out the sponge and it sucked. If you want a better review let me know!

Total value of November’s brushes: 18.98

Hopefully in 2017 they’ll send more blending brushes and lay off the contour brushes! But overall I am excited to finally use all of these brushes!

Products I’ve Been Loving

It’s been a hot minute since I posted a monthly favorites post so I thought I’d compile a list of products that I’ve been consistently using and repurchasing. Let’s go!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Makeup 3-in-1 Makeup Meting Cleansing Balm: Y’all! This has seriously, without a doubt, changed my skincare routine. I use this probably 3 to 5 nights out of the week and I love the way my skin feels after I rinse. All you need is about a dime to a quarter size and just start melting your makeup away. I’m pretty sure that you can use this on your eyes. I personally don’t, I am still using my micellar water to take off my mascara. Definitely repurchasing!

Makeup Geek X MannyMUA Palette: I don’t think there’s not a day that goes by where I don’t reach for this palette. Whether it’s because I’m using Beaches and Cream as a transition shade or using Artemis to highlight my inner corners, I just can’t put this palette down! This palette came out in February of 2016 and I barely got my hands on it in August. Nearly 6 months after the launch and re-stocks. If you want to get your hands on this “limited edition” palette, I suggest you do that now. You never know when MUG is gonna pull it!

ka-Brow!: Earlier this year or late last year, I purchased ABH Dip Brow pomade, and don’t get me wrong I really love it! But I found that their brown shades were too warm for me. Then over the summer Benefit launched a new line of brow products and I was getting low on my Dip Brow so I figured, “What better time than now to try a new brow product?!” ka-Brow! has quickly become my new favorite brow product. I love the powder like finish and the cool tone shades. Wish the pot was bigger and I wish the brush was different but overall I can’t live without it!

Urban Decay Shadow in Foxy: Speaking of brows, I have been using Foxy from my Naked 2 palette to highlight my brows. It’s the perfect color to add on that brow bone. I might actually purchase this as a single since I’ve been using it so much. I can’t believe I haven’t been using it before!

The Brow Gal Brow Gel: Ok, like, why in the HELL didn’t anyone tell me that brow gel would literally change my life?! I was about to go on living my life without brow gel, then one day I decided to slap it on my face and I’ve never looked back! I believe I got this brow gel in a BoxyCharm earlier this year and I was probably like “psh! Brow gel?! Like I’ll ever use that”. If I could go back in time, I would slap myself and yell at myself like that one time Tyra yelled at that one model. . .

This gel doesn’t feel like I’m wearing anything at all. And it’s so powerful! Seriously, if a hurricane were to come down, my brows would still be in place.

I have really missed this! Let me know what products you’ve been loving! I’m always on the market for something new and exciting!

Why I Don’t Buy New Releases. . .

I have been majorly slacking lately over here! With my increasing work load, it’s sometimes hard to find the time, let alone the motivation, to create new content for my blog. I will do my best moving forward to create at least one blog post a week.

**Disclaimer: This is more of a rant and after proofreading a million times, I’m not too sure if my point ever got made. . . But oh well!

Now that that’s out of the way. . . I wanted to talk about “limited edition” products and new releases in the makeup world.

It’s so hard these days to keep up with all the new products coming out. I feel like every other week there’s a new highlighter palette or a new eyeshadow palette or a new liquid lipstick that we all just need to get our little hands on.

One company/product that comes to my mind is Kylie Jenner cosmetics. I’ll say it, her liquid lipsticks and glosses are pretty great! But why do we feel the need to panic when she comes out with a new shade or collection?! With the launch of her recent holiday collection, it really got me thinking, “Do I really need these products” and “Why am I freaking out over this launch?” If the product is that great and the demand is there then it’ll come back in another restock or it’ll stick around permanently. (i.e.: her original batch of liquid lipsticks that launched last Christmas) Which is why I now no longer feel the need to rush/panic when a product is restocked.

Another product, that I just realized has some major controversy over, is the Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette.

Back in May (I think that’s when it came out?) when this palette first hit the scene, I wanted it SO bad! But alas, my bank account wouldn’t allow me and I figured that if the universe really wanted me to have it then it wouldn’t be a problem. Plus, to be honest, I figured that something from the Prosecco Pop line would become permanent just like Champagne Pop.

I was so excited when Jaclyn Hill announced that the “limited edition” palette would be restocked, I was ready! I had alarms set and money saved up!

*I now use the phrase “limited edition” very loosely nowadays. If the product was “limited edition” why did they re-release it just in time for the holidays? Clearly this was a planned re-release. Just saying. . . . “

But after I had purchase this product, I had a come to Jesus moment. I realized that I personally NEVER buy a new product. If anything, I typically wait 4-6 months when the demand has slowed down. Maybe that’s because of my anxiety and I just don’t want to spend my day constantly clicking the refresh button until my fingers bleed on the day of a product re-stock. Or, maybe that’s because I’m smart and if the demand is there for a product the company will continue to make it until the demand dies down.

How do you all feel about this? Do you feel the pressure to keep up with the (makeup) Jones’?

I Love My Job!

I am a meeting planner by day and a blogger/beauty guru by night. I am fortunate enough to plan meetings and events for some pretty great companies. It not often that I get gifts so I never expect a company to give me anything when their meeting wraps up. But this week was unlike any other. As a thank you, my client gave me and a few other co-workers some goodies! I was so overwhelmed! I was not expecting it. And I think I got the best bag!

The first itsm I saw in what would be my bag was the Urban Decay Moondust palette. I didn’t care what else was in the bag!

I was so shocked at how light the palette was. You would think that with the packaging it would be like a brick! I can’t wait to do some looks with this!

This palette retails for: $49

When I got home I really delved into this bag and saw another product that I have heard so many things about. The Becca Backlight Priming Filter. This seems to be everyone’s new favorite primer.

I tried it out on the back of my arm for kicks and giggles the other day and I love the formula. Can’t wait to see how it performs!

Retail value: $38

Sephora just started carrying It! Cosmetics and I am so thrilled. I saw a huge jar in my bag and thought it was a moisturizer but it was the Bye Bye Makeup Makeup Melter!

I tried this out yesterday after work. I wasn’t sure how much to use so I used small amounts on my cheeks and forehead. I loved how smooth and supple my skin felt after! I’ll be doing a full demo and full review on this product next!

Retail Vaule: $38

Perricone MD is a brand that I haven’t tried yet because it’s a little expensive. I got the Face Finishing Moisturizer. I used this after I used the makeup melter and oh my gawd!! My skin has never felt so amazing!!

I’m afraid to fall in love with this product since it’s so expensive!

Retail Value: $75 for 2oz (I only have one ounce. I couldn’t find the price for my size)

Another makeup product that I was excited about was the Lancôme Juicy Shaker. I love the packaging on this product. I haven’t heard much about this product so I need to read more about it. I got the shade Berry In Love. I have actually been looking for a deeper shade like this!

I’m a little uncertain on how to use this though. Anyone have any tips?

Retail Value: $21

I also snagged Sephora Solid Brush Cleaner. I am always looking for a good brush cleaner so I cannot wait to try this out.

Retail Value: $14

All of us received a perfume of some sort and I got a baby sample of the Dior Absolutely Blooming perfume. I already have this perfume but look at how cute the packaging is!

The last item in the bag was the most expensive! Kate Somerville +Retinol Firming Eyecream. This eye cream claims to visibly firm and brighten your undereye. And it has a gold applicator too!

Retail Value: $85
The overall value of this bag is $320! And I got it for free for all of my hard work! I am so grateful!

Have any of you tried any of these products? What do you like about that product?

Thanks for reading!

Bye Bye No Buy

It’s fall y’all and I’m back!! It’s been a rough summer for me with work (or lack there of it) and with a move. But I’m back and ready for more posts!

I have been slowly waiting for all of my packages to come in and now that they are all here I’m ready to show you what I’ve added to my collection.

Let’s start with what I got from Ulta! The end of my no buy worked out pretty good for me. I was as the end of my concealer and mascara so I finally got my ride or die mascara, Too Face Better Than Sex and my tried and true Urban Decay Naked Concealer

The one think different about the concealer this time around was the shade. The first time I bought this I got Light Warm and this time around I bought Light Neutral. I think once this tube is out I’ll switch back to Light Warm. It’s just not providing the brightness that I want.

The next item I swooped up was Benefit Ka-Brow in shade number 4. As you may know I have been obsessed with my ABH Dip Brow in Dark Brown but once my tan from summer wore off (and got better lighting in my bathroom) I realized that Dark Brown was WAY too warm for me. Ever since I bought #4 I have noticed a significant change in my brows. The only down side to this formula is that it’s kinda dry/crusty? Has anyone else noticed that, or is it just me?

And finally, the last product I got from Ulta was the NYX HD Studio Photogenic finishing powder. I could not, for the life of me, find the Cory Airspun Translucent Powder anywhere at Walgreens, so I needed to find a new finishing powder and I settled on this.

This powder is NOT GOOD! The smell of it is terrible and it has THE WORST flashback! But I do like the texture of the powder (I needed to end on a positive note)

My Makeup Geek was my next package to roll in and I was so excited!! I finally got my hands on the Manny MUA palette. I have been hearing so many great things about this palette and boy was everyone right!! I can’t wait to show you guys some looks using this palette!!

I have been on the market for a new contour shade and I heard that MUG has some pretty good ones. I picked up the shade Infidelity which is a cool tone shade. I need to get a slightly darker shade though. This will look like dirt on my face if I’m not careful. Overall, I’m impressed with the pigmentation and the application.

Aaaaannnnddd my final beauty shipment to come in was from Amazon!

As I mentioned earlier, I could not find the Coty Airspun anywhere in Walgreens. (I went to at least 3) and I couldn’t find it. So where does a girl go when she needs her Airspun powder?  Amazon.

I cannot express how much I love this powder. It’s the best for baking and setting your whole face. And you get so much product for such a great price!

The last time I bought a Beauty Blender was back in March. So needless to say, I was long over due for a new Beauty Blender. This one came with a sample of the Solid soap too for an extra $5!

New Beauty Blender on the left and old /dead Beauty Blender on the right

And this past weekend, I found a gem at Nordstrom Rack! A Morphe 35 W palette!! I could not believe it!! First of all, I had no idea you could get Morphe in Arizona, let alone at a Nordstrom Rack. Second, it was on clearence! AND! There was an additional 25% off the already discounted price!!

Currently this palette is on sale online but I got it for $11! Such a great steal!

And that’s it folks!! I’ll be posting about the brushes in a separate Morphe Me post.

Thanks for sticking with me during the radio silence! I love you all!!

Morphe Me: July

MorpheMe is by far one of my favorite beauty subscriptions. For $19.99 a month you get at least $30 worth or more of Morphe Brushes. This is such a great way to try out Morphe and to build up your brush collection. Each month is amazing and I always get at least one brush that I have been wanting to add to my collection. If you’d like to sign up for MorpheMe please click here.

What’s special about this month? We got 3 brushes from the new Elite II collection! This collection is said to be even better than the original Elite collection!!

E48 – Mini Pointed Powder

This brush is going to be great for setting your under eye area. I might actually use this for contouring or bronzing. I’m going to have to experiment with this guy.

Price: $8.99

E22 – Pointed Blender

You can never have too many blending brushes! This one is going to be perfect for blending out imperfections in your crease or for finer details. I love how small this brush is!

Price: $6.99

E18 – Round Crease

Yet another small blending brush that’s going to be perfect for  finer details. I might use this for blending out my lower lash line.

Price: $5.99

M432 – Flat Liner Definer

I was so excited when I saw that we were getting this brush this month!! I have been wanting a brush like this for so long!! I can’t wait to pack powder onto my lash line with this bad boy!

Price: $3.99

M310 – Large Soft Fan

I squealed when I saw that we were getting this brush this month!! I have the M510 which is great for applying highlighter but I have been dying for a fan brush! I just want to see how they both apply highlighter. I see NikkieTutorials use a fan brush for so long and I love the way highlighters apply on her skin with this brush.

Price: $4.99

Total value this month: $30.95

I will be taking a break from next month’s brushes and all of my subscriptions, Ipsy and Boxycharm, for a month or so. But August’s brushes have already been announced! In August MorpheMe peeps will be getting the M431, M437, M530 and M403. If you’re looking for a set of contour brushes, August is your month to grab them!!!

Kyshadow Dupes

While I am still waiting to get my hands on the Kyshadow palette, I have found (almost) every color in the Kyshadow palette in my Morphe 35O Matte palette and in my Tartelette In Bloom. And I don’t know about you but I’d rather pay $22 for 35 eyeshadows than $42 for 9 eyeshadow. The two shimmer shades in the palette I was able to find in my Tarte Tartlette in Bloom palette.

Colors in the Kylie Kyshadow Palette (From Left to Right):

  • Jasper: Matte Cream
  • Quartz: Shimmer Champagne Gold
  • Topaz: Matte Taupe
  • Goldstone: Shimmer Bronze
  • Citrine: Matte Bright Orange
  • Tiger’s Eye: Matte Light Gold Brown
  • Hematite: Matte Chestnut Brown
  • Bronzite: Matte Chocolate Brown
  • Obsidian: Matte Black

And here’s a little key to finding most of those shades in the Morphe 35O Matte Palette:

Jasper (4)

And here is a key to finding the shimmers and the matte black shade in the Tartelette In Bloom Palette:

Copy of Jasper (1)

Since I only own the 350 Matte palette I can’t say that you can’t find the shimmer shades in the original 35O or 35O Shimmer palette. But you probably could!

I had so much fun creating these images for you guys and finding the exact shades! I hope to get my hands on the palette soon so I can really compare the Morphe shades to the Kyshadow shades. Up next, I’ll have a tutorial using these shades to create the same eye look Kylie did in her Snapchat a few weeks ago!

How I Color My Hair

We all can’t afford to go to the salon every 6 weeks to get a root touch up or get a new look. And from articles that you’ve probably read, and from hair stylists, everyone tells you to stay away from box color from the grocery store. That’s where Sally Beauty Supply comes in.

In a previous life, I used to work at a salon, and I was immersed in the hair styling and hair color world. I learned a little about color formula, styling, etc. I’m also a visual learner and I retained some good tips on hair color and application.

*Disclaimer: I only suggest doing this kind of color application at home if you’re looking to go a few shades lighter or darker.

What you need to get started:

  • Disposable latex gloves or if you’re careful you can reuse these
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Hair color applicator
  • Measuring beaker (optional)
  • Hair clips or crocodile clips
  • Color remover wipes – just in case you accidentally get color on your arm or on your face
  • Color blocker – aka Vaseline or Vicks vapor rub works great!
  • Deep conditioner of your choice
  • Argan hair oil or macadamia hair oil of your choice
  • Hair color
  • Developer (cream!! Not clear)- if you’re new to hair color start with either 10 or 20 volume
  • Unwashed hair – the dirtier the better
  • Brush and comb of your choice
  • Loose fitting and old t-shirt – Even the most skilled person will get color somewhere on their body so make sure you find a shirt that you’re not too attached to 😉

Once you’ve selected your color, I used this one. And the mixing ratio for this brand is 1:2. So I part hair color to 2 parts hair developer. The tube of hair color is 2oz so you’ll use 4oz of developer. Mix those two with your brush applicator. For added conditioning, I like to add a tiny amount of Argan oil to that mixture.

Quick tip: Developer is the amount of lift/lightening you want to achieve. If you use too high of a developer (40 volume and up) the results could be lighter than you wanted and also cause extreme damage to your luscious locks! And too low of a volume won’t do anything for you. A rule of thumb is to just stick with 20 volume if you’re looking to go 1-3 shades darker.

Next you’re going to comb through your hair making sure you don’t have any knots. After that clip up your hair so you can rub a decent amount of the Vaseline at the base of your neck. Continue to place the Vaseline all over your ears and the rest of your hairline. Now you’re ready to put on your gloves and start the hair coloring process!

Separate your hair so you have 4 quadrants. Starting with one of the quadrants in the back, separate that even further so you have a smaller amount of hair to work with. I always say, the smaller the better so you don’t miss any spots when you’re coloring. Dip your brush into the color and “paint” it on to the hair. Be sure to get the roots!! Once you feel that that section of your hair is covered in color move onto the next section of that quadrant.

Once you’ve colored every bit of your hair follow the rest of the directions on the tube of color. You should let this process anywhere from 30-45 minutes. So wash all of your tools and grab a snack.

After the 30 or 45 minutes, you’re going to want to rinse the color out. Now you can either do this in the sink or just take a shower. I always opt for the shower, I’m not even 5 feet tall so it can be a challenge for me to reach the sink.

Quick Tip: If you opt to rinse your hair in the shower, try to line the inside of your shower with a trash bag. When you’re rinsing, the color can get ALL over the place and stain! or just clean up right away with bleach or some sort of bathroom cleaner.

Wash your hair as you normally would until it feels clean. I usually wash my hair twice. Then I’ll ring out as much moisture as I can and grab my deep conditioner and slap a generous amount of it all over hair, paying close attention to my ends. I’ll try to leave that on for about 10-15 minutes. Then rinse and towel dry your hair and style as you normally would.

After you’ve styled your hair, take your color removing wipes and clean up any spots on your face, ears, neck, etc to remove any stains. This stuff also works on countertops, just in case you had an accident.

And there you have it folks! That’s how I color my hair. I typically do this every 6 or 8 weeks. Personally, I like to color my hair after I get a haircut.

If you liked this post, please like and share! And don’t forget to follow!

Favorite Face Brushes

My Morphe brush collection is growing rapidly thanks to Live Glam’s Morphe Me subscription! You can sign up here . Even though I have so many, I can definitely tell you which ones are my go to. Today, I’m gonna tell you about my go to face brushes.

All of these brushes are from the first Elite Collection. The original Elite collection is no longer available but Morphe just launched the Elite II collection! These have even soft bristles (I don’t even know how that’s possible!) an upgraded ferrule and the brush hair is a little different too.

Let’s start with the biggest one, the E1. This brush is so soft which makes this the perfect brush for blending in powder. But I use it a big eraser. I know, that sounds weird but when I get a little too heavy on the bronzer, blush or contour, I take this guy and just buff out any mistake and I’m good to go!

Moving on to my next go to, E3. This brush is PERFECT for setting the under eye with any setting powder. I love dipping this into Emphasize from MAC!! And I love using it on other people. It makes it much easier than using a bigger fluffy brush.

And finally, my E4. I never used to wear blush until this brush came along. I am in love with the synthetic fibers in this brush! It makes every blush I use blend seamlessly into the skin!

Let me know what you’re favorite brushes are! I’m always looking for more
